Agriculture & Ranch Supplies Then & Now

It is said that farmers and ranchers are the backbone of America. They feed and clothe a nation. Surpluses are shipped to people in nations throughout the world. And behind every good farmer and rancher (in addition to a spouse) is a farm and ranch supply store.

Some years ago, a community’s general store offered up just about everything needed to run the operation. They carried everything from seeds to saddles and just about every imaginable and essential implement devised. What wasn’t readily on hand could be purchased through catalogs and delivered by stage or train.

Farm and ranch stores are still around today, still supplying ranchers and farmers with what they need to run their businesses. But the modern rancher and farmer is not as dependent upon a single location as they were just 50 years ago. With door-to-door shipping and the advent of the Internet, the farm and ranch supply store is also at their fingertips. Like any business, farmers and ranchers are pressed more than ever just trying to keep afloat. Comparison shopping and online auctions have helped many hold costs down and keep their farms and ranches in the family.
True, most everything a farmer and rancher needs to run their operation today can be found online. Still, a lot of farmers and ranchers enjoy the personal interaction they find at their local supply store. These stores help to make the rancher’s and farmer’s job a little less isolated and lonely.
